The manager of Southampton FC, Ronald Koeman, is believed to be eager to work with his countryman Dirk Kuyt. He would probably bid for the veteran player during the mid-season transfer window.
Koeman had actually tried to unite with Kuyt a couple of years back as well when he was the Feyenoord boss, but, he had failed at that time.
Kuyt is playing in Turkey at present for Fenerbahce and he is enjoying his football there.
Yesterday, the 34-year old expressed his happiness on twitter after his team got to the first position in the Turkish League table by overtaking Galatasaray.
But, there have been no signs yet that the Dutchman is going to prolong his stay at Fenerbahce once he is done with his contract at the end of this season.
The reports say that he is pretty open about getting back to UK again if a good opportunity pops up.
As far as Southampton is concerned, they need an understudy for their first choice forward Graziano Pelle. They have Shane Long in the squad, but, he has misfired a little bit in the recent past.
Also, there is no chance of Jay Rodriguez retuning from injury for the next couple of months.
So, the saints are looking to land an attacker immediately and Koeman reckons Kuyt is the ideal man simply because he has played in England before.
Kuyt had a fairly successful career at Anfield from 2006 to 2012 in which he played close to 300 games and fired in 71 goals.
Southampton is holding the second position in the Premier League points table right now. They are 4 points ahead of the last season’s champion Manchester City. They have played 11 matches, have won 7, have been defeated twice, while, one of the games has been a draw.
